Joy for Jordan as Rugby Sevens qualify for Olympics
Tullamore’s Jordan Conroy was the toast of his teammates on the Ireland rugby sevens squad tonight (Tuesday) when he scored two sensational tries to propel the team into the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
On what was a very memorable night for the Irish squad at the rugby sevens final in the Henryk Reyman Stadium at the European Games in Krakow, Ireland beat Great Britain 26-12 to claim a gold medal and book their Olympic Games spot for the second consecutive time, having also qualified for the Tokyo Games in 2021.
Tries came from Billy Dardis, Terry Kennedy and Jordan Conroy, who was the real hero of the team with two magnificent tries in the second half, one of which sealed victory for Ireland in the final minutes of an exciting and high-intensity game.
Speaking of what the win meant to him, Jordan Conroy paid tribute to his teammates, saying they were “more than brothers, more than family” and he said he didn’t feel as nervous as he thought he would going into the final. “It’s a big massive relief, because we can now enjoy the summer” he said.
