Two major residential projects appealed

Plans for two major residential schemes, totalling almost 200 homes in Tullamore, have been appealed to An Bord Pleanála in bid to overturn their approval.

The first is a Large Scale Residential Development (LRD) of 102 homes by Daingean Road Residential Ltd at Daingean Road, Cappincur, which was granted planning permission on May 16, while the second is a 95-home project proposed by James Spollen Ltd to be accessed via the existing Hophill Avenue and The Cedars estates along Church Road, given the green light in late May.

Both schemes have been hugely contentious from the start with over 20 local submissions in relation to the Church Road project, and another three listed on the council website for the Cappincur development. In the two cases, Offaly County Council sought a large amount of further information from the developers before they garnered approval.

Now, it's emerged that appeals have been lodged to An Bord Pleanála in bid to overturn the planning green light for both schemes.

Christine Cawley is currently listed as the only appellant to the approved plans by James Spollen Ltd, while three others appeals in relation to the project are listed as invalid on the Bord Pleanála website. While the detail of the appeals for the two schemes are unavailable at the time of going to press, over 20 submissions in the local planning process raised a large number of concerns from traffic access to privacy, density and wastewater provision amongst many others in relation to the Church Road project.

Meanwhile, Daingean Road Residents Association is behind the appeal of the Daingean Road, Cappincur project, involving a mix of houses, duplex and apartments earmarked for a site on the L2025. The group previously articulated worries about flooding, traffic impacts, layout and density.

An Bord Pleanála is due to decide the fate of both projects by mid-October.
