Photography shot on Offaly bog to feature in New York exhibition

Some photographs taken by visual artist Eamonn Farrell in the Bog of Allen on the Kildare, Offaly border will feature in a new exhibition in New York from Friday, June 9 until Thursday, June 15.

‘Bog Women’ will present dramatic images which feature the naked female form in various settings on the bog. Eamonn is one of 29 European artists whose work will be on display in the Gorgeous Gallery in Brooklyn, New York as part of the exhibition.

The 'Bog Women' images are from Eamonn's Death and Resurrection series, which also includes a video which was a finalist in the online section of the Waterford International Short Film Festival 2022. He began dealing with the global warming theme in 2009, with his Elements of Nature Project, of which his present work is a vital part.

Speaking about the new photography series, Eamonn said: “The main element of Death, Resurrection and Destruction is a video which is not part of the NY Group Exhibition but which the images on show are a part of and which hopefully, next year, will form part of a major multimedia exhibition. I will be creating more content for this project on the Bog of Allen and other bogs this autumn.” The exhibition will focus on Irish bogs and climate change based on the concept of an awakening of women buried in the bogs for thousands of years. The video can be watched here

Eamonn added: “Our Irish bogs contain the history of our nation, going back to the time the first primitive people arrived on our land from the south and east of the known world.

The remains of many of them are buried deep in the bogs which are scattered through our countryside and which are now central to the sometimes bitter debate on global warming.”

The photography exhibition can be viewed at the Gorgeous Gallery in Brooklyn, New York from Friday, June 9 until Thursday, June 15 from 10am to 12pm and from 2 pm to 7pm.
