Tullamore Academy Choir continues to achieve success
The Tullamore Academy Choir continues to rack up the awards at choral festivals across the country and abroad, with two major successes in the past number of weeks, including a first place finish at the prestigious Cork International Choral Festival and a runner-up place at the Navan Choral Festival.
The choir was founded in September 2007 as part of a performing group’s initiative undertaken by The Academy of Music in Tullamore. The musical director is Ciaran Brady who is also Director of The Academy of Music in Tullamore and a vocal coach and performance tutor at the National University of Ireland Maynooth, from where he holds an Honour’s Master’s degree in Music and vocal performance and has also directed the “University Chamber Choir”
Each member of the Academy Choir is a student of voice with The Academy of Music and has a different and wide-ranging background in solo, operatic and competitive performance. They have had huge success in almost every national choral festival including many awards at “Cork International Choral Festival.”
At this year's Cork International Choral Festival, the Academy Choir won the top prize in the Church Music competition from a very competitive field of ten choirs, and they followed this up with a runner-up place at the prestigious Navan Choral Festival.
The back to back successes in Cork and Navan were huge achievements for the Tullamore-based choral group on their first return to competition since Covid.
The choir is eagerly looking forward to their next public engagement when they feature at the opening concert in the Tullamore International Summer Organ Series on July 4 next at 8pm in the Church of the Assumption, Tullamore.
