Eid gathering to celebrate end of Ramadan in Tullamore

A celebration to mark the end of Ramadan for Muslims will take place tomorrow (friday) in St Mary's Youth Centre, Tullamore.

For the month of Ramadan muslims have been fasting for approximately 13.5 hours of the day from the break of dawn until sunset.

The celebratory event will kick off with prayers at 8.30am followed by a sermon and speech given by the imam. Then attendees can celebrate the end of Ramadan and reflect on what they enjoyed about it and enjoy some food with friends and family.

One of the organisers Asad Mahmud Khondkar said: “It has been a great month fasting. Over 500 or 600 people attended last year and we're expecting a lot more this year."

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. Eid is celebrated by Muslims because it marks the end of the month-long of Ramadan.
