Grand Prix success in Florida for Offaly’s Kenny
Offaly showjumping ace Darragh Kenny claimed the top spot in the $226,000 Bainbridge Companies Grand Prix in Florida last Sunday evening.
Completing what has been a great weekend of sport for Irish riders around the globe, Belmont native Kenny won the 1.60m Grand Prix at the CSI4* in Wellington, Florida.
Riding the 13-year-old mare Vancouver Dreams, Kenny jumped clear in the opening round, securing his place in the seven-way jump-off.
Kenny once again produced a faultless round, in the winning time of 36.18 seconds, an impressive 1.67 seconds ahead of his nearest rival.
The result came as no surprise as Kenny and the Max Kühner-owned mare finished first and second in the CSI3* in the same venue last month.
America's Lillie Keenan, riding Fasther, finished in second place followed by Belgium's Nicola Philippaerts with Luna Van't Ruythershof Z.
An unfortunate fence down in the jump-off left Derry's Daniel Coyle and Quintin in sixth place.
Meanwhile, Kildare’s Mikey Pender and HHS Calais (ISH) win the CSI4* Andalucia Grand Prix Final 1.60 in Vejer De La Frontera, Spain last Sunday afternoon.
Pender and HHS Calais (ISH) prove once again to be a fantastic pair as they top the podium two weeks in a row. HHS Calais (ISH), bred by Ita Brennan and owned by Bravo Hughes Ltd, jumped clear in in both rounds and completed the jump-off with the fastest time of 36.84 seconds.
