Minister to bring Offaly heritage gifts on St Patrick's Day travels

Minister of State Pippa Hackett will bring gifts representing Offaly heritage with her as she travels to Tanzania and Kenya as part of the Government’s 2023 St Patrick's Day programme.

“I am delighted to be bringing gifts which capture some of the rich heritage of Offaly and those highlighting the need to conserve it," she said.

"I believe that meaningful connections are made when people can understand something of where the other is coming from and these gifts form part of that relationship building. I have a busy itinerary of varied engagements from agriculture to enterprise and foreign affairs.

“I was proud to pack Tina Claffey’s book, Portal, in my suitcase. The vital life of our bogs and wetlands is artfully captured by Tina, a local and well known photographer. I believe Tina's work powerfully communicates the importance yet fragility of our bogs' biodiversity.”

“I have also chosen to pack Rachel McKenna's fascinating read on 'Traditional Architecture in Offaly – history, materials and furniture 1800 to present day'. While intended as a gift I may spend some of my travel time giving this the attention it deserves.”

“Last but not least, I am packing two beautiful slate tea light holders crafted by Mauricio Martino and part of the lovely and unique collection available from Heartworks in Tullamore. Some of Mauricio’s work has a celtic theme which I love.”
