‘Beat on the Peat’ festival in Belmont this summer
A new music festival will take place for the first time at Moystown GAA pitch in Belmont this summer. The impressive line-up for the festival will feature headliners Ruaile Buaile, The Tumblin' Paddies and All Folk’d Up.
'Beat on the Peat' is being organised by the West Offaly Music Festival committee and is promised to be a “fun filled day” for everyone. The committee is also currently in talks with local musicians about performing at the inaugural event.
Secretary for Belmont GAA John Ferris said they are hoping to have tickets on sale for the festival this weekend. 'Beat on the Peat' will take place on on Sunday, July 9 at Moystown GAA pitch in Belmont.
“It was something we wanted to do for the community to bring people to the area and have an event in the GAA.”
According to Mr Ferris they will hold a community night in the future to get feedback from locals on the event and a launch night as well. “We've had a meeting with the committee and we've been in discussion with the community.”
The secretary continued: “Everybody's been very positive. A lot of people are saying it's a great idea to do it. Some community groups have given their support for the day” (of the festival.)
Mr Ferris added that the committee is also in discussion at the moment about bringing in various things for younger kids on the day to keep them entertained. “We're trying to ensure we cater for all ages on the day.
Belmont GAA Club is also hoping to raise some money from the event to develop the club's facilities and to help the players in the parish.
Speaking about what he hopes people will gain from the new festival, Mr Ferris said that people will get a “bit of enjoyment on the day” and can “sit back, listen to music and meet up with people”.
“We're hoping we get people from all corners of Ireland coming to it,” he ended.
