Plans for traffic calming for Walsh Island village welcomed

Fianna Fail Cllr Eddie Fitzpatrick has welcomed the proposed plan to install traffic calming measures in Walsh Island village.

The plans were outlined to the January meeting of Edenderry Municipal District by area engineer, Mark Mahon, who gave details on the application submitted to the department seeking adequate funding to provide certain safety measures in the village. He also added that the roads department in Offaly County Council is currently working on a design for these safety provisions.

"I have been contacted by the Principal of the local national school and by numerous concerned residents regarding speeding in Walsh Island village and the safety for children and others residents" said Cllr Fitzpatrick "and I also spoke to the Director of Services for roads outlining the ongoing situation with speeding in Walsh Island and indeed other villages and towns within the municipal district".

The local Cllr said he believes it is now time for Offaly County Council to look seriously at the policy regarding the provision of raised speed ramps across the county as provided in other adjoining counties.
