Hotel offers sympathies after child's death
Gardaí have confirmed that they are investigating the death of a male child, aged 6 years, following a tragic incident in the swimming pool at the Tullamore Court Hotel on Sunday last, May 29.
The child was taken to Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin where he passed away today (Tuesday). Gardai say a file will be prepared for the Coroner's Court.
A statement has been issued on behalf of the management of the Tullamore Court Hotel, in which they have offered their sincere condolences to the family of the child and his loved ones at this difficult time.
The full text of the statement reads as follows:
"We confirm that an incident occurred on Sunday evening, May 29th, in the hotel pool. The emergency medical services responded quickly, and the child involved was brought to Midlands Regional Hospital and later transferred to a Dublin hospital.
It is with great sadness we have been informed that the child passed away on Tuesday 31st May. We offer our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones at this difficult time. The thoughts of all our team are with them. We would ask everyone to please respect their privacy.
We have no further comment at present."
In a statement issued to the Offaly Independent earlier today, the Health and Safety Authority confirmed that they are aware of the incident and are making "relevant enquiries."
