Attendees at the Tullamore St Patrick's Day Parade in Tullamore some years ago were the Kieran family.

Bands, schools and groups getting ready for Tullamore parade

A number of bands, schools and many groups have already indicated that they will be lining out for the Tullamore St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Parade Secretary Cllr Sean O'Brien said: "We are delighted with the response from many groups who are getting their entries ready for the parade. We also have three bands confirmed and we are seeking more. Committee members have spoken to schools and there is also a great interest there. There is an excitement building up as most people are really looking forward to getting out there with their clubs, organisations and businesses and moving on from Covid.

The parade takes place on Thursday, March 17, commencing at 11.30am. The Assembly point is the car park of the Bridge Centre and groups should be here by 11am at the latest. The route is High St., Bridge St., Colmcille St., over the Kilbeggan Bridge and onto Arden Rd. Assembly point for businesses and large floats is Kilcruttin, opposite the Railway Station.

All entrants are asked to fully co-operate with stewards, Gardai and Civil Defence.

"The theme for this year is "Community Spirit" and groups are asked to reflect this in their entry. The Grand Marshall this year is Phil O'Reilly Sr. in recognition of his significant contribution to the sporting and business life of Tullamore and Offaly."

Businesses are welcome to enter the parade and are asked to enter a float instead of a group of vehicles. Dancing groups are particularly welcome and they should contact the committee as indicated in the contacts below.

Letters have been sent to organisations and businesses and more will be sent over the coming days.
