Offaly village is named as Ireland's tidiest

Geashill has been named as Ireland's tidiest village. The village also won the Offaly county award.

The announcement was made at a scaled-back event held in the RDS today with a small number of representatives present from this year’s entries to the competition.

Geashill Tidy Towns win a prize of €5,000 and the trophy for Ireland's tidiest village, with a mark of 353.

Geashill was also awarded a gold medal, along with Tullamore, while Birr received a silver medal and a bronze medal was awarded to Clonbullogue.

The event was streamed live to thousands of TidyTowns volunteers around the country who were eagerly awaiting the announcement of the winners.

The SuperValu TidyTowns competition has been in existence since 1958 and Ennis, was judged to be the best from a number of 847 entries to the competition this year.

On hand to announce the results of the 2021 competition with Minister Humphreys, T.D., was Ray Kelly, Marketing Director of SuperValu, the competition’s sponsor for the 30th year.

The category awards went to Geashill, as Ireland's tidiest village, Abbeyleix as Ireland's tidiest small town, Cobh ans Ireland's tidiest large town and Ennis as Ireland's tidiest large urban centre.
