Winter League The qualifying rounds of the J D Scanlon & Co (Dermot Scanlon) sponsored Winter League have been completed and all is set for the match play stages this weekend. There are some very interesting pairings in the match play with several of the top qualifying teams drawing each other. The format is two foursomes and one singles and the first team is off at 9am on Saturday morning. Teams must be handed in 15 minutes before the appointed start time and it is important that team captains read the rules which are on the notice board before submitting their team. The winners go forward to Sunday morning when the start time will be 10am. Draw *The Baldies v Five Counties - Five Counties have a few light on the thatch as well. There was nothing between these teams in the qualifier and one expects that it will go to the wire. *GBRs v Killeigh A - Past performances and strength in depth makes Killeigh A hot favourites here. *Mainliners v Cloonagh - Cloonagh should have an easy passage to the next round and indeed are expected to go all the way again this year. *Blues Brothers v the Ciotogs - despite the handicap advantage of the Blues Brothers the Ciotogs should be good enough to win. *Old Harbour Bar v White Heads - The experience of having been down this road before must swing it for the White Heads. *Super Stars v the Left Overs 2 - A reversal of the names might be appropriate here as any stars around are on the Left Overs, so it looks like an early shower for the Super Stars. *Spollen"s Crew v Golfers United - Spollen"s Crew must get the nod here especially with the prospect of the second round match against the Heads. *Harvey Heads v Credit Crunchers - Harvey Heads have imposed a curfew on team members on Friday night so Joe Morris will have to stay out of the pub. Credit Crunchers might be a bit tight on handicap to win. It will be an interesting 2nd round if Spollen"s Crew and Harvey Heads meet on Sunday morning as Deckie and Willie Egan will have to be in bed early, a somewhat strange happening for those boys on a Saturday night. Good luck to all the teams and enjoy. There will be a competition over the weekend for those not playing in the Winter League and the format is foursomes and a time sheet is in operation.
