Wasteful Tullamore lose to Kilcormac despite Carty strike

Tullamore Rovers travelled to Kilcormac looking to build on their midweek victory over Moate Celtic in the shield, the shield victory coming courtesy of a penalty shoot-out at the end of an extra-time period in which Tullamore Rovers played with ten men. Despite dominating the better part of this game Tullamore Rovers were unable to convert their possession into goals that would have given them a deserved share of the points at least. Two first-half goals gave the home side the advantage going into the break with Tullamore Rovers best efforts in the first 45 coming from a headed effort from Ken Doyle and strike from JP O"Leary that narrowly missed to the right. Rovers virtually had all of the possession in the second half and when James Carty fired home with fifteen minutes to go, it looked like Rovers might be able to salvage a draw at least. Despite a huge effort from Rovers in the last ten, they found clear cut opportunities were few and far between. The best effort of the final few minutes came after a great move down the right that ended up with Stephen Toohey firing a great ball across the face of the Kilcormac goal but their was no Rovers player at the end to meet it. It was a good performance by Rovers but it"s points not performance that the Tullamore side need to now to keep a pace of the team around them.
