Offaly to host 3 Drawing Day events

Tomorrow (Saturday, May 18) is National Drawing Day, and Offaly is getting in on the act with two events in Birr and a third in Edenderry.

Promoted by the National Gallery of Ireland, National Drawing Day encourages children and adults alike to try their hand at drawing and sketching under the guidance of an experience facilitator.

Four resident artists at Edenderry’s Public Access Arts on JKL Street will facilitate “post it” drawings to be made by the whole community free of charge from 11am until 3pm tomorrow.

In Birr children aged eight to eleven can for €9 get a drawing lesson that will teach them to tell a story through art with everyday items in Tin Jug Studio on St Brendan Street from 11am until noon.

At 1.30pm it’s the turn of the adults, who can learn the same skills for the same price.

Professional artists are also welcome at Tin Jug Studio between 11am and 2.30pm, with a €5 asked for Tin Jug’s Art-Aid charity box.

Bookings for events at Tin Jug Studio can be made by calling Rosaline on 087 6681783 or 57 9121818.

Meanwhile at 11am in Birr Theatre and Arts Centre artist Emma Barone will give a lesson in “Mandela” art free of charge. Participants should bring pencils and an eraser to the session, but paper will be provided.
