Football League Champions Edenderry......1-10 Raheen………1-04 Last Friday evening in Gracefield, Edenderry Senior footballers regained their place in Division 1 of the football league with a 1-10 to 1-4 win over Raheen. The Reds made the perfect start to this game, when Robbie Glennon had the ball in the Raheen net within a couple of minutes of the throw in, after good work from Keith McGuinness. At half time the score was Edenderry 1-5 Raheen 0-3. Although Edenderry started the second half with a pointed free then then went into a bit of a lull, and allowed Raheen to win more possession. Soon after, Raheen had the ball in the Edenderry net, when slack defending allowed a Raheen player run straight through for a goal. Colin McCormack then made a fine save shortly after, to prevent Raheen"s second goal. Robbie Glennon then settled his side, when he kicked a point from a free followed by a Cillian Farrell free. Colin McCormack then made another great save as got down brilliantly to his left hand side to keep Raheen out again. Raheen then scored a point, to reduce Edenderry"s lead to four points. Cillian Farrell then showed his experience as he slotted over his second point, to put five between the sides, when a younger head might have opted for goal. Edenderry had some good performances in this final from Colin McCormack, Stuart Quinn, Stephen Murphy, Stephen Doyle, Robbie Glennon and Stephen Guing. Jack Sheedy will be happy with the progression of his side throughout the league, as he had the chance to blood a lot of young players and still win games, and ultimately gain promotion to Division 1. Team: Colin McCormack; Johnny Blong, Stuart Quinn, Wayne Mooney; Stephen Murphy, Richie Dalton, Johnny Hurst; Alan Doyle, Shane Connell; Cillian Farrell (0-2), Mark Young (0-5), Stephen Doyle (0-1); Keith McGuinness (0-1), Adrian Mahon, Robbie Glennon (1-1). Subs used: Paddy Lynch, Stuart Cullen, Basil Malone, Stephen Guing, Colm Cummins. Referee: David Walsh Cumann na mBunscoil Hurling Final Hard luck to the Edenderry Boys School hurling team which lost out to Pullough in the Cumann Na mBunscol hurling final last Thursday in Mucklagh on a scoreline of 4-02 to 2-03. It was a fantastic achievement for the school to reach this final, and a big well done to all players and management involved. With so many young lads hurling in the school, it may not be too long before they get their hands on some silverware.
