Mary Lou McDonald to launch Sinn Féin local election campaign
Sinn Féin Vice President Mary Lou McDonald will officially launch the party’s campaign in Offaly on Thursday next.
The event will be held in the Bridge House Hotel at 8pm and Sinn Fein’s European candidate for the area Cllr Matt Carty will also be there on the night.
At present Cllr Brendan Killeavy is the party’s only town councillor in the county, but in May Sinn Féin is running a candidate in each of the three electoral areas - Carol Nolan in the Birr/Ferbane area, Martin O’Reilly in the Edenderry area and Cllr Brendan Killeavy in the Tullamore Electorial Area.
Cllr Brendan Killeavy said: ”It’s brilliant that we are contesting the three areas in Offaly as this is a first for Sinn Féin in recent history. There hasn’t been a Sinn Féin county councillor in Offaly since Eamon Bulfin who was a councillor in the Birr area back in 1923. Martin and Carol are two very credible candidates with a good track record of working in their communities for people and I have no doubt that both will poll very well and be elected.
“I am encouraging people to attend on the night,” added Cllr Killeavy.
The event will last about an hour. The three candidates will lay out their stall for the election followed by an endorsement from Mary Lou Mc Donald TD.
