Bellyfull of laughs at Comedy Workshop
TADS (Tullamore Amateur Dramatic Society) is proud to be hosting a recession busting comedy workshop titled 'Laugh..... I nearly', which is for amateur actors and directors who want to learn the art of comedy using contemporary scripts, devised work and improvisation. The workshop will be run by Dara Carolan. Dara is a graduate of the London Guildhall where he studied English and Theatre Studies. He is an accomplished actor, director and playwright and has appeared at the Abbey Theatre, The Gaiety and The Olympia. Participants of the workshop will be shown how to create comedy characters for different disciplines of comedy from social comedy (Bernard Farrell) black comedy (Martin McDonagh) and farce (Ray Cooney). This is a hands-on workshop that will give the participants the opportunity to work on a comedy piece of their own choice. At the end of the module, participants will have a better knowledge of all the styles and will have created a short scene either devised or from a contemporary work for performance. The workshop is sponsored by Offaly County Council Arts Office, which will help subsidise the workshop. Cost is €15 for TADS members and €25 for non-members. Concessions are available for students, unemployed and over 65s. Price includes refreshments, a light lunch on Saturday and copies of "The Cripple of Inishmaan" and other materials. The workshop will be held upstairs in Hugh Lynch"s, Kilbride Street, Tullamore, with paid parking available in the area. Part one commences today (Friday, May 15,) from 6.30pm to 9pm. Workshop part two takes place tomorrow Saturday, May, 16 from 10am to 5pm. Only a few places remain, if interested please contact Denise on 087 9183352.
