Sixth Boston Scientific fun run a great success

The sixth annual Boston Scientific Tullamore fun run was a great success with almost 300 people taking part in the four-mile run/walk, which to date has raised over €40,000 in aid of Dóchas, a voluntary organisation that provides support and counselling to those suffering from cancer. The event took place on Sunday, May 3, commencing at the railway station. From there, the leaders proceeded out the Rahan road, back through the IDA Business and Technology Park before finishing up back at the Harriers Athletic Club. An Taoiseach Brian Cowen was on hand to fire the starting gun. Speaking after the event, Boston Scientific Tullamore"s Director of Operations John O"Donovan said: 'Boston Scientific is delighted that the 2009 Fun Run was such a success. While helping to raise much needed funds for Dóchas, the employees at Boston had demonstrated their sense of community spirit in engaging in the event, more determinedly than ever.' And he was personally thrilled at their achievement. 'It was fantastic to see so many people participate and lend their support to the runners.' He thanked everyone who helped to organise the event and those who participated on the day. Barry Minnock won the men"s race in a time of 20:50, very closely followed by Noel Kelly in second place just three seconds behind and Paul Buckley in third just a further two seconds back. In the ladies race Pauline Curley, Tullamore Harriers lead from start to finish. For over half of the race Liz Cuskelly held second place but in the last two miles she was overtaken by Angela McCann of Clonmel AC and by Marie Triona Keane, Tullamore Harriers who finished a close third. Participants young and old thoroughly enjoyed the event. Even the weather was kind with the sun shining down for the duration of the race with heavy showers raining down after everybody had gone home. Participants who have yet to return their sponsorship cards are asked to return them to Dóchas or Boston Scientific as soon as possible. Finally to all the sponsors, without whose help this event would not be possible, Boston Scientific extends its sincerest thanks.
