REVEALED: The most popular baby names last year

Jack and Emily remained the most popular names for baby boys and baby girls during 2019.

It's the second successive year both names have topped the charts for babies' names registered in the country, according to figures released by the Central Statistics Office.

For boys, there is a remarkable continuity with the top five names remaining in the same position nationally over the last two years.

The top five boys names for both 2019 and 2018 were 1. Jack; 2. James; 3. Noah; 4. Conor; 5. Daniel.

There is slightly more variation nationally when it comes to girls' names, although the top two remain the same again with Emily taking first place and Grace second for the second year in a row.

Fiadh was the third most popular girls' name across the country last year. It had been in 10th the previous year. The fourth most registered girls name last year was Sophie, a position it had also occupied in 2018.

Hannah moved from 11th in 2018 to fifth in 2019, replacing Amelia, which moved from 5th in 2018 to 6th last year. Emma which had occupied 3rd place in 2018, drifted to 12th last year.

In Offaly, Anna was the most popular girls' name in 2019, taking over from Grace the previous year. Nationally, Anna was 19th.

Conor, Jack, Daniel and James were equally popular in the Faithful County when it came to boys' names.
