Planning granted for extensions at Tullamore hospital
The HSE has been granted permission for a number of significant developments at the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore, including the provision of two new isolation rooms that “will assist in dealing with infection prevention and control measures at the hospital”. The planning application was made in December, prior to the Coronavirus outbreak. The approved development also includes the provision of an acute mid-term assessment unit, which comprises a six-bed ward. Also proposed is the extension and reconfiguration of the existing blood and histology laboratories on site. The acute assessment unit and isolation rooms are to be located adjacent to the Emergency Department. The space was occupied by administration staff who have recently relocated to the refurbished old hospital building, known as the Scott building.
