Shannon Harbour farmer to appear on Ear to the Ground
A Shannon Harbour farmer who can't sell his land as it is prone to flooding is featured on Thursday night's episode of Ear to the Ground.
Back in 2009, Ear To The Ground visited Paddy Towey's farm after it had been hit badly by the winter floods. Mr Towey’s farm in Shannon Harbour took the brunt of that bad winter and he had a huge clean-up operation on his hands. Unfortunately, Paddy had no idea at the time that what he experienced then was only the beginning for his home and the land that gave him his livelihood.
Since 2009 his land has been flooded twice more and this has left him devastated. The flood damage to his home was so severe in 2015 that Paddy can no longer even live there. Now he has land that he would love to sell but cannot do so.
Ear to the Ground's Helen Carroll went to Shannon Harbour recently to see the effect these consistent floodings have had on Paddy and his farm. Thursday night's, February 15, episode of Ear to the Ground is on RTE 1 at 8.30pm
