Green candidate launching local election campaign
Pippa Hackett the Green Party local election candidate for Laois Offaly is launching her campaign for the Edenderry Local Electoral area in Larkin’s Bar on Tuesday, January 29.
She will be joined by Senator Grace O’Sullivan, who is a candidate in the European elections for the South constituency (which now includes Laois and Offaly), and Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan TD.
This will be a family friendly event, and will feature a riveting presentation from Grace on ‘What’s More Scary – Climbing the Anchor Chain of a Russian Nuclear Warship or Walking up the Steps of Leinster House?’
O’Sullivan, a mother, ecologist, activist and senator, has had a fascinating life from her time as Irish surf champion, to her 20 year career with Greenpeace.
During her more recent ‘adventures’ in the world of politics, she has been at the forefront in spearheading legislation and awareness around plastics and climate change. This is sure to be an engaging presentation.
Deputy Eamon Ryan said: “I’m really looking forward to this event. Grace and Pippa are two exceptional women, and anyone who knows them will know how hard working and dedicated they are - they get the job done. Offaly needs someone like Pippa – her hopes and aspirations for this community and the wider area are commendable, and based on her work to date, I have no doubt that Offaly County Council will be better served with Pippa on board”.
Pippa Hackett, who farms near Geashill with her husband and four children, has been involved with the Green Party for three years. “I think everyone appreciates that green issues are becoming more important than ever – be it in agriculture or transport, plastic waste or energy production; and the Green Party are the best party out there to deal with these issues.”
All are welcome to the launch on January 29 and refreshments will be served.
