Wrafter family on TG4 music show
The Wrafter Family Band from Kilbeggan are set to return to TV screens again this coming Sunday, March 24, when they will appear on the new series of the TG4 show, Realta Agus Gaolta (8.30pm).
The show, which sets out to find Ireland's most talented family, was a big hit with viewers when it was broadcast for the first time last year. The Wrafters - Peter, Noreen, Conor, Thomas, and Aimee - also performed on last year's series, narrowly failing to make it out of their round.
But even so, it was an experience that Peter enjoyed, as he explained at the weekend.
“Absolutely, we all enjoyed being on the show last year. It was a great experience for all of us. We've been very lucky with some of the shows we've been a part of over the last year or so, with the likes of Nathan Carter, the High Kings, Johnny McEvoy, and more recently, with the great Finbar Furey as well. And they're all special experiences in their own ways, and ones that you can learn from as well. And that's what Realta Agus Gaolta was last year, a great learning experience. And one which we were delighted to be a part of. It's the nature of any show like that, that in the end, there can only be one winner. If you go into it with that in mind, and then just give the best performances that you can, that's the most anyone can do.”
Last December the Wrafters (from Kilbeggan) opened for Finbar Furey at a special fundraiser for Trocaire, hosted by the Ceann Comhairle in Leinster House.
During Finbar's set that night, he invited young Thomas Wrafter back up to perform 'I Remember You Singing This Song, Ma', which resulted in a standing ovation and barely a dry eye in the room. Earlier this month, during one of his two sold-out shows in the Bridge House Hotel in Tullamore, Finbar again extended that invitation for Thomas to join him on stage for another heartwarming version of the same song.
