Air Ambulance Service completes 29 Offaly missions in 2024

A total of 29 Air Ambulance Service missions took place in Offaly in 2024, Government figures have revealed.

The figures, released by the Tánaiste and Minister for Defence Simon Harris, detail the county-by-county breakdown of the 652 missions that took place last year.

Known as the Emergency Aeromedical Service (EAS), Ireland has two helicopter emergency air ambulances, one of which is an Air Corps-operated aircraft based at Custume Barracks Athlone.

The Air Ambulance responds to a wide variety of critical incidents across the country, missions frequently involving significant trauma resulting from falls, road traffic collisions as well as medical emergencies.

The service provides rapid transport for patients of all ages, often to major trauma centres or specialist units in Dublin, such as Beaumont, Tallaght, and CHI Crumlin.

The geographical spread covers numerous counties, demonstrating the national reach of the service.

A second EAS operates from a base at Rathcool in North Cork.
