New committee elected after emergency meeting of Tidy Towns group

A new committee has been formed after an emergency meeting called by Edenderry Tidy Towns.

The meeting in Byrne’s Lounge in the town was called over concerns that the group could not continue without new blood.

Cllr Noel Cribbin said a new committee had been elected, and some long-standing members had stepped away, due to various issues. He thanked the outgoing members for their great service and recalled many of the important projects that the Tidy Towns committee had been involved with over the years including the 5km walkway on the canal, introducing wildlife to the harbour, the new path on the harbour, trees and lighting on main street and around the Square, and the erection of hanging baskets and flower beds.

The new officers are: Chairman Stephen Savage; Secretary Gary McInerney; Treasurer Ann Conlon and PRO Noel Cribbin.

Cribbin said: “It was a huge relief to the outgoing committee that we now have a new committee, new officers, new ideas and energy that will drive on the group going forward.”

The new committee’s first meeting takes place on Thursday, May 1 at 8pm. All are welcome.

Cllr Cribbin said that the “total absence of local businesses at the meeting” was noted by those in attendance.
