Bracknagh residents concerned over volume of trucks through village

Cllr Eddie Fitzpatrick says he has been contacted by residents living in and around Bracknagh village who are extremely concerned about the large volume of trucks travelling through the village.

Residents say the number of trucks seems to have increased in recent times with such traffic travelling through as early as 4am in the morning until late at night.

Residents are concerned for the safety of children and elderly people living in the village due to the speed of these vehicles and are seeking answers on how this issue will be addressed, Cllr Fitzpatrick said.

He said residents are also seeking traffic calming measures such as raised crossings and speed ramps to reduce speed and ensure safety for all.

"The road infrastructure from Portarlington on the R419 into Bracknagh and Clonsast Lower has been impacted greatly by these heavy trucks and furthermore the road from Bracknagh to Clonbullogue and onto Edenderry is extremely impacted," Fitzpatrick said.

He said while road resurfacing works have taken place on some affected areas on this route as part of the 2025 roads programme more needs to be done if the large volumes of heavy goods vehicles using these roads continues.
