Award-winning short film made in Offaly to be shown at upcoming Athlone Film Festival

A short film that was made in Shinrone early last year is to be screened at an upcoming film festival in the Midlands.

A Simple Killing is one of seven high-quality short films that will be shown at Athlone's IMC Cinema on Saturday week, May 3, as part of the 2025 Athlone Film Festival.

Last November, A Simple Killing took the 'best short film' award at the Waterford International Film Festival.

Actors Aidan O'Callaghan, Daphne Cheung and Claire Gavin appear in the short film, which has been described as a taut and gripping thriller. It was written by Mark Conway and directed by Jason Branagan.

The other short films to be featured at the upcoming Athlone event are A Roscommon Snapshot, directed by Kathy Raftery, The Wilde Sisters, directed by Táine King, Trespass, directed by Desmond Lynch, Upper Current, directed by Gregory O'Reilly, Vanilla, directed by Tony O'Donnell, and Dear Imelda, directed by Árón Holden.

Tickets, priced €11.70, can be booked on Eventbrite.
