Offaly allocated over €300,000 under community monuments fund

Over €300,000 has been allocated for Offaly projects under the Community Monuments Fund.

Those project benefiting from the funding include Ballintemple Church which received €94,879.40, Toberdaly Castle & Folly which received €129,681.65, Newtown Fortified House which received €27,767.25, Lemanaghan Enclosure which received €20,000, and Monasteroris Church which received €30,000.

Fine Gael TD for Offaly, John Clendennen, has welcomed the funding.

“I am delighted to confirm significant funding for Offaly’s historical sites. This investment will not only safeguard important monuments but also create opportunities for local employment and tourism,” said Deputy Clendennen.

“These grants will support vital conservation work, enhance public access, and help protect these monuments from the impacts of climate change,” Clendennen added.

“It is fitting that these awards coincide with World Heritage Day on April 18, a day that highlights the importance of preserving our shared history.”

“The Community Monuments Fund continues to be a cornerstone in protecting our built heritage while supporting skilled local craftspeople. I want to thank the custodians of these sites for their dedication and passion, which ensures these places can be appreciated for generations to come.”

Since its inception in 2020, the Community Monuments Fund has invested over €25 million in communities across the country, reinforcing Ireland’s commitment to heritage and cultural preservation.
