Offaly's Geraldine completes 150 Mountlucas parkruns
Geraldine Mahon, a regular at Mountlucas parkrun, recently completed her 150th parkrun.
There are a number of parkruns througout the Midlands, but amazingly Geraldine has completed all 150 of her parkruns at Mountlucas.
The Walsh Island resident is most often seen completing the parkrun in the company of her good friend, Rita Corcoran.
It has taken a significant amount of time, effort and dedication for Geraldine to reach the milestone of 150 parkruns, having completed her first parkrun back in 2018.
Geraldine completed 38 of her parkruns as the designated volunteer "tailwalker". The tailwalker's role is to be the last person to finish the parkrun. Geraldine previously described this as "a very enjoyable role supporting the other walkers to complete their parkrun."
In addition to congratulating Geraldine on her milestone, the organisers of Mountlucas parkrun would like to send a message of thanks to Gaisce students, Clodagh Burke and Tara Swaine, who have been volunteering at the parkrun for the last number of months as part of the Gaisce programme.
Gaisce is a youth development award initiated by the President of Ireland. It is comprised of three pillars of personal and social development: A Life Skill, Community Involvement, and a Physical Challenge or Sport.
It is primarily aimed at Junior Cycle and Transition Year students, but all young people between the ages of 14 and 25 can participate.
Mountlucas parkrun is a free, weekly, timed event held at Bord na Móna Mountlucas wind farm every Saturday morning at 9.30am sharp.
There's something for everyone at Mountlucas parkrun whether you want to walk, run, volunteer or just meet new people. For more information see: parkrun.ie/mountlucas
