Multi-million euro developments at two Offaly primary schools

Two co-educational Catholic primary schools in Offaly have gone to tender for multi-million euro expansion works in order to cater for increasing pupil numbers.

The projects are set to be carried out at St Joseph's National School in Tullamore and St Sinchill's National School in Killeigh.

The purchase and installation of two-storey prefabricated accommodation is proposed at St Joseph's NS.

This planned extension is to include six new classrooms with ancillary toilets, two Special Education Teacher(SET) rooms, two universally accessible toilets, two new stairwells, a platform lift and all associated site works.

Having relocated to its current site in Arden View, St Joseph's NS was the subject of a refurbishment in 2004 following which four new rooms were added in 2008. A second extension was completed in 2016, the school now catering for over 400 pupils.

The proposed development will be located to the rear south of the existing school. Tender submissions for a contract valued at €2 million (excluding VAT) are due before the closing date of Monday, April 28.

In Killeigh, St Sinchill's NS is inviting contractors to tender interest for a proposed extension valued at €3.8 million.

The project includes the construction of a new single-storey extension to the existing primary school consisting of two new special education needs classrooms, remedial and demolition works, external play areas, additional car parking spaces and landscaping. The closing date for tender submissions is Monday, May 5.

St Sinchill's NS currently has a pupil population of approximately 300 girls and boys.
