Tullamore's long-standing sewage issue to be resolved by end of 2026

Plans have been put in place by Uisce Éireann to resolve long-standing sewage and flooding issues in Tullamore's Convent Garden and Callary Street by late 2026, after a call to action by local councillor Declan Harvey.
"These issues have been on-going for the last 30 years," Cllr Harvey said.
"I've made it my mission as a councillor to get this issue resolved, and now that I have it in writing, and Offaly County Council have it in writing, I'll be holding them accountable until it's completed."
Residents of Convent Road and Callary Street have been forced to avoid certain areas as raw sewage has been appearing on the street.
"It's an environment and health hazard, and I really feel for people living in the area," said the local councillor.
"Kids are forced to walk the long way to school, and it also affects those doing the park runs on the weekends.
"Cars driving past don't realise the extent of the issue, and they're driving through it and splashing it up onto people."
Cllr Harvey said once the works are completed, it will be a huge relief for local residents.
"The work should have been completed with the other works in September. Now, we have it in writing, so at least we can hold Uisce Éireann to their word. It will be a huge weight off of people's shoulders."
The sewage and flooding works are set to begin in the second half of this year, with the project expected to be completed by late 2026.
