Teddy Bears picnic in Ferbane raises €382 for Rare Ireland

A fun-filled event which took place recently in a Ferbane playschool raised over €380 for Rare Ireland, which provides supports to families across the country living with rare disease.

The event, called Rare Bear Day, was organised by Cathal Egan, whose son, Seánie, is living with a rare genetic condition called Floating Harbour Syndrome.

The children at Busy Bees Playschool in Ferbane had an unforgettable day at the Rare Ireland fundraiser as they brought their teddies into school for a hugely enjoyabe teddy bear's picnic.

Rare Ireland strives to be the voice of families in Ireland living with rare disease by advocating on their behalf; collaborating with other organisations and researchers; taking part in projects in the hope that they will improve care pathways and addressing the unmet needs of the rare disease community.

The charity provides support in a number of ways, including:

1) A safe space for parents to engage with other rare parents

2) Putting families of children with the same rare condition in contact with each other

3) Sending gift boxes to rare children during hospital stays

4) Subsidising therapies, equine therapy and genetic counselling for members

5) Linking in with other rare disease organisations and working together in an effort to improve care pathways for people living with rare conditions.
