Banagher Precast Concrete receives award for work on new Everton stadium

Banagher Precast Concrete have been rewarded for their prominent contribution to the construction of the new Everton Football Club stadium at Bramley Moore-Dock in Liverpool with a prestigious accolade at the Irish Concrete Society’s 42nd annual awards which took place in the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road, Dublin, on Saturday night.

The West Offaly company were successful in the 'International Award' category in which they were also highly commended for their work on the Blackpool Central multi-storey car park.

When it is officially unveiled, the 52,888-seater stadium on the banks of the River Mersey will boast significant components all manufactured at the Banagher Precast Concrete base and delivered directly to the port in Liverpool where they were stored at the docks and moved on site as required.

Banagher Precast Concrete supplied approximately 7,000 terracing units towards the stadium's construction, chief among the materials being the provision of 2,238 double terrace units.

Along with the provision of double terracing units Banagher Precast Concrete manufactured a further 4,500 precast elements including bridge beams, stairs, entrance walls to the banks of seating, raker beam, infill steps and façade panels.

The Irish Concrete Society 'International Award' recognises Irish companies who export product or services off the island of Ireland. The award reflects the continued emphasis on export for Irish construction.

The award jury comprised of Jeremy Lamb (EirEng Consulting Engineers), Joe Friel (Enterprise Ireland) and was chaired by David O’Mahony (Mola Architects), all of whom acknowledged that Banagher Precast Concrete was a "clear" winner in the category in which there was nine companies shortlisted.

"The judges were impressed with the extremely high quality of all the entries for this year’s Irish Concrete Society International Awards and deciding on a winner was a difficult challenge.

"However, there can only be one winner and in the end the winner was clear. For overall excellence in thinking creatively and delivering a solution that has positive implications across the sector the jury chose to award the 12th Irish Concrete Society International Award to Banagher Precast Concrete for Everton Stadium.

"The innovative design of the double terracing units overcame multiple technical challenges to have wide ranging positive effects on programme, budget and most importantly a significantly positive effect on the sustainable design approach of the project," the jury spokesperson said.

Banagher Precast Concrete garnered further success in the 'Infrastructure Award' category, the company being a major supplier towards Phase 2 of the Ulster Canal Restoration Project which entails the construction of a new marina in Clones, one kilometre of restored canal and towpath with a looped walk and an amenity area including parking, a service block, picnic area, performance space and bus/trailer spaces, on the route of the 180 year old Ulster Canal.
