Funding has been allocated for works on Hill Street House in Magherabane, Cloghan

Historic Structures funding awarded to landmark Cloghan building

Over €85,000 has been awarded for the repair and protection of Hill Street House in Magherabane, Cloghan, under this year’s Historic Structures Fund.

The awarded funding will go towards repairs to the roof, rainwater goods and lime render of this example of domestic early nineteenth-century urban architecture, which still features original roof timbers and thatch under its 1970s roof covering.

Alongside other heritage funding streams such as the Built Heritage Investment Scheme and the recently re-opened Conservation Advice Grant Scheme, the Historic Structures Fund aims to conserve, protect, and promote the use of historic buildings across cities, towns, villages, and countryside.

Announcing the allocation, Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan, TD, said the funding would enhance the landmark building within the local community.

“The works funded will secure the integrity of this site for the enjoyment of future generations, and enhance the sustainability of the local economy with great benefits for employment, tourism, and the environment," the Minister said.

Nationally, over €3.5 million was awarded under the fund for the repair and protection of 28 heritage buildings.
