TD urges Offaly landowners to review land tax maps

Offaly TD John Clendennen is urging landowners in Offaly to review the final map for the 2025 Residential Zoned Land Tax (RZLT) and the draft map for 2026, which have been published by Offaly County Council.

These maps identify land that may be liable for the tax in the coming years.

The Residential Zoned Land Tax, introduced in the Finance Act 2021, aims to encourage the activation of serviced, zoned land for housing and mixed-use development. It seeks to boost housing supply and regenerate underutilised urban areas where investment in key infrastructure has already been made.

Speaking about the process, Deputy Clendennen stated: “It is vital that landowners and interested parties take the time to review these maps and, if necessary, make submissions before the deadline of April 1st, 2025.

“This tax could have significant implications for property owners, and engaging with the process now will help ensure that only appropriately zoned and serviced land is included.”

The final map for 2025 confirms the lands subject to the tax next year, while the draft map for 2026 provides an opportunity for landowners to challenge or clarify the inclusion of their lands.

These maps can be accessed online at www.offaly.ie or viewed in person at Offaly County Council Planning Department in Tullamore or at any of the Municipal District Offices.

Deputy Clendennen is encouraging all stakeholders to take this opportunity to review the mapping process carefully and ensure they understand the potential tax implications.
