There were scenes of unbridled joy for Moate Community School in Tullamore today (Thursday), after a glorious victory in the LGFA Lidl All-Ireland PPS Junior 'A' final against Ursuline Secondary School of Thurles.
Prior to the game, the joint manager of the Moate CS side, Fidelma Quinn, described an 'A' All-Ireland title as "the ultimate goal... the holy grail," and her players accomplished it on a scoreline of a 6-6 to 4-9 at Glenisk O'Connor Park.
Moate raced into a 17 point lead at one stage in the first half of today's final, but their opponents from Tipperary showed resilience by battling back and narrowing the deficit in the second half.
However, the Westmeath side did enough to retain their lead up to the final whistle, with Anna Ryan scoring three goals on the day and Alex Kelly picking up the player of the match award after hitting 1-2.
