Climate and biodiversity action group to be set up in Offaly

A new climate action group is being formed in Offaly.

The group is to host its first meeting on Thursday, April 3, at 8pm in St. Mary’s Youth Centre, Tullamore.

The meeting will establish a new Offaly Climate & Biodiversity Action Group.

In statement, the group said it is very important to conserve the wonderful habitats in Offaly and their biodiversity for future generations.

Any with an interest in protecting biodiversity and climate action is invited to this meeting and to the group regardless of their background.

The action group will not be political party aligned.

A spokesperson said the group feels these issues are of very high importance and wants to build a community where people can share ideas and to establish a local network of nature enthusiasts who want to collaborate and focus on action.

"There is quite a lot being done around the county, if we work together, we can protect Offaly’s biodiversity and promote positive local steps for meaningful climate action," the group said.

The statement said the group would also raise awareness of Offaly County Council's Draft Biodiversity Action Plan and Climate Action Plan and support them to achieve their aims.
