New funeral parlour planned for Tullamore
A vacant commercial premises on Tullamore's Main Street has been earmarked to become a new funeral parlour.
According to planning documents lodged with Offaly County Council on February 26, established local funeral directors, Lambes, are seeking permission for a change of use of an existing commercial unit on Main Street into a funeral parlour.
Permission is also being sought for “minor changes” to the front entrance of the premises, together with all associated site works.
The inclusion of a family bereavement room also forms part of the plans.
The planning application has been lodged by P.J. Lambe, David Lambe and Edel Kenny, and the owner of the commercial unit where the proposed funeral parlour is to be located is listed as Rita Lambe.
The planning documents indicate that there will be no change to the existing ground floor space of the unit, which is 88.10sq.m.
The proposed funeral parlour will occupy approximately 62.75sq.m while the proposed family bereavement room will be 13.8sq.m.
The unit is located next door to a ladies hair salon, and opposite a multi-storey car park on Main Street.
Architectural drawings for the proposed funeral parlour, which accompany the planning application, indicate that both the public entrance and exit will be located to the front of the existing commercial unit.
Submissions on the plans can be made by members of the public until April 1, and a decision is due to be made by council planners by April 22.
