Runner-up finish in major US Grand Prix for Darragh Kenny
Offaly's Darragh Kenny and the 13-year-old gelding Eddy Blue claimed a runner-up finish in the $500,000 Lugano five-star Grand Prix at Wellington International in Florida.
Second-last to go in a seven-horse jump-off, Kenny was chasing the target of 40.24 set by Kent Farrington (USA) and Greya. Kenny crossed the line clear in 41.22 which would give him second place on the podium.
Kenny's performance was one of three podium finishers for Irish competitors.
Fresh off their win in last week’s $117,000 Grand Prix qualifier, Derry's Daniel Coyle and Farrel secured a third place finish in the four-star $200,000 Grand Prix at World Equestrian Centre in Ocala, Florida. An incredibly tight contest saw just five hundredths of a second separate the top three. Brian Moggre (USA) and MTM Vivre Le Reve took victory with a clear in 36.36. Aaron Vale (USA) and Gray's Inn clocked a time of 36.39 for second place, while Coyle was also clear in 36.41 to take third spot with Farrel.
Meanwhile at Desert International Horse Park in California, Co Down's Conor Swail guided Casturano to a runner-up finish in the three-star Grand Prix. Swail finished just over a second behind American winner Keri Potter with Kalimera Van De Nethe Z while third place went to Katherine Huffstutler (USA) and Eothymm De Kergane.
