Offaly libraries to mark National Celebration of Reading month
Offaly libraries are hosting a number of events to mark the national celebration of reading taking place during the month of February.
'An Evening with Donal Ryan' takes place in Tullamore Library on Tuesday, February 25, at 6.30pm.
An award-winning author, Ryan was recently awarded the An Post Irish Book of the Year 2024 for his novel ‘Heart, Be at Peace’.

Meanwhile, Birr Library will host 'An Evening with Patricia Gibney' on Wednesday, February 26, at 6.30pm.
At this event, best-selling author Patricia Gibney will talk about her books and have a chat with those present. Patricia is an author of crime fiction who sold 100,000 copies of her first crime thriller as an e-book and had total sales exceeding 500,000 copies in 2018. By 2019, total book sales had passed one million.

On Friday, February 21, the library will host a 'Mini Magazine' Crafty Friday session at 3.30pm. Create your own mini magazine 'All About Me' during this craft session. Booking is required for this event. Members of the Birr Library team will also be visiting schools for storytimes and library chat throughout Ireland Reads Week.
Finally, 'An Evening with Anne Griffin' will take place in Edenderry Library, on Wednesday, February 26, at 6.30pm.
Anne Griffin is a best-selling author of the novels, 'The Island of Longing', 'Listening Still' and 'When All is Said'. She was awarded the Irish Book Awards Newcomer of the Year Award, 2019.
Her work has been shortlisted for the John McGahern Annual Book Prize, the Kate O’Brien Award and the Christopher Bland Prize amongst others. She has been longlisted for the Dublin Literary Award. Edenderry Library is also offering book clinics (available on request, booking required) to help you escape the reading rut.
On Friday, February 21, at 3.30pm, Edenderry Library will hold beaded bookmark craft for children aged six and over (booking required).
On, Saturday, February 22, at 11am, Edenderry Library will hold a celebrate librarians session. Those attending will meet librarians for a story-time, hear what they get up to behind the scenes, explore different ways of reading and enjoy library-based activities like a library tour and a Find That Book game.
Daingean Library will host their weekly 'Storytots Storytime' for children under six years on Ireland Reads Day, February 22, at 10.30am.
