Former Offaly hurling manager to feature on this week's Laochra Gael

Offaly hurling enthusiasts are certain to savour this week's episode of the popular TG4 Laochra Gael series, win which Michael Bond, the Faithful County's former hurling manager, will be featured.

A relative unknown, Bond was appointed Offaly manager following the Leinster hurling final defeat to Kilkenny and the resignation of Michael 'Babs' Keating.

The Faithful County's Liam McCarthy apparently in tatters, what materialised is still the topic of much conversation in Offaly GAA folklore.

Against all odds, Bond led Offaly through a turbulent championship campaign, including the now-famous semi-final against Clare, marked by a premature whistle, a historic protest, and a hard-fought replay victory.

His leadership culminated in one of hurling’s great triumphs—an All-Ireland final win over Kilkenny.

Bond's impact on Offaly hurling went far beyond silverware; he forged lifelong friendships and earned enduring respect for his humility, determination, and the remarkable success of that unforgettable 1998 season.

Laochra Gael will air on TG4 on Thursday night at 9.30pm.
