Funding of €17m announced for regional and local roads in Offaly
Offaly TD John Clendennen has welcomed a funding announcement of more than €17 million for works on regional and local roads in Offaly in 2025.
In total, €17.2 million was awarded for roads projects in the county, some €7.2m of which is due to be spent on road surface restoration and improvement works.
Included in the funding is €1.8 million for the Birr Distributor Road, as well as €200,500 for phase two of Edenderry Inner Relief Road, and €600,000 for the R441 at Monasteroris.
In addition, €1m has been earmarked for a "pilot scheme for rehabilitation of roads over peat".
The funding announced by the Government today (Friday) for regional and local road projects across the county amounted to €713 million in total, which is an overall increase of over 8% on last year's funding allocations.
Fine Gael TD John Clendennen said the regional and local roads funding "will support crucial restoration improvements, safety measures, bridge rehabilitation, climate change and flooding adaptation aswell as enhancing the strategic road network."
"This funding is a major boost for regional and local roads, ensuring that essential upgrades, safety improvements, and climate adaptation measures can be delivered," said Deputy Clendennen.
"I am particularly pleased to see the allocation of €1.8 million for Birr distributor road and €600,000 for the R441 Monasteroris road, as well as €200,000 funding for the inner relief road in Edenderry and €129,000 for Killyon cross roads, which will greatly benefit local communities and commuters and improve safety.
"This investment highlights the continued collaboration between Offaly County Council and the Government and I look forward to continue working with my colleagues at Offaly County Council to enhance road infrastructure, improve connectivity, and support economic growth across the county," he said.
