Local group to host meeting with aim to re-establish Birr Community Games
Local group Birr 2020 Vision are set to host a meeting in association with Offaly Sports Partnership with the aim of re-establishing the Birr Community Games.
The public meeting is taking place on Wednesday, February 19, at 7.30pm in the Council Chamber, Wilmer Road.
Jude Feehan from Offaly Community Games will be in attendance to outline what is required to "get the ball rolling".
In a statement, Birr Vision 2020 said: "The Community Games feature some 84 events for under 8's to under 16 from May to August annually.
"In memory of two great community stalwarts, John Gleeson and Noel Coughlan, and others who gave so much to so many over generations of Birr Community Games, it is hoped to establish a core group to re-start Birr Community Games."
The group are appealing to locals and sporting clubs in the Birr area to get involved by attending the meeting.
The meeting should also be of interest to our local schools, and the organisation hope that a parent or staff member from each school can attend.
