Water supply in area of Offaly to be disrupted all day next Tuesday

Uisce Éireann has said there will be a water supply interruption in Rhode and surrounding areas throughout the day on Tuesday next, February 12.

It said work on an essential upgrade at the Toberdaly Water Treatment Plant would be carried out on the day.

"The necessary interruption to supply will allow for the installation of a new pump, which will enhance the reliability of the water supply and result in significant energy savings," stated Uisce Éireann.

"To facilitate these works, customers in Jonestown, Thomastown, Ballybrittan, Ballyheashill, Monasteroris, Clonmore, Rathcobican, Rhode, and the surrounding areas, may experience reduced water pressure.

"In some instances, particularly in higher elevations, intermittent water outages may also occur," it added.

The water supply interruption is due to occur on Tuesday from 8am to 8pm and alternative water supplies will be in place at Rhode village hall during these works.

Members of the public are being reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.

Uisce Éireann's Operations Manager for Offaly, James Joyce, said, "Every effort will be made to reduce the impact of these works on homes and businesses in the area.

"The essential upgrade to the pump at Toberdaly Water Treatment Plant is required to help protect the reliability of the supply to the local community while also improving the plant's energy efficiency.

"We understand the impact a supply disruption can have on customers and would like to thank the local community for their patience and cooperation during the works."
