Tullamore Credit Union makes donation in support of Sophia Housing

On behalf of the members of Tullamore Credit Union, its chairperson Eileen Brophy last week made a presentation of €1,000 to Tony O'Riordan of housing charity Sophia Housing.

Sophia Housing, with the support of Offaly County Council, began operating a Regional Supported Temporary Accommodation service in December.

The service is known as 'Cill Bhríde' and is located in the former Clonamore House on the Arden Road. This name was selected because of St Brigid’s many local connections with Offaly and the wider Midlands.

Tony O'Riordan outlined how Sophia Housing hopes the new service will reflect the values associated with St Brigid, in particular that of hospitality and caring for those who are homeless or in need.

The service caters for people from Offaly and the Midland counties who may be homeless and are referred by the local authority.

On presenting the cheque, the Chairperson Eileen said that there are many people in need locally. The recent storms highlighted how important having a safe place to call home actually is, and she hoped that this presentation would go some way toward supporting this new service.
