Long serving Tullamore stalwart takes over as manager
Tullamore GAA has appointed long serving player Paul McConway as the new manager of the club's senior football team.
McConway succeeds Niall Stack who enjoyed a highly successful spell in charge which included three Dowling Cup triumphs.
In announcing the appointment of McConway, Tullamore GAA highlighted the many honours the committed defender has achieved as a player, having won Offaly SFC medals in 2007, 2013 (when he was team captain) 2021, 2023 and 2024.
"Paul is the club’s most decorated footballer since the 1930s and his appointment as senior manager now signals the end of his playing career," said Tullamore GAA.
"A former Offaly captain, he represented the county with distinction from 2006-19. We wish Paul all the best in his new role. His management team will be finalised in due course," the club added.
McConway's move from Tullamore player to manager follows the recent appointment of Shane Hand as the club's senior hurling manager.
Hand was controversially ousted as Kilcormac-Killoughey manager after leading his home club to the last two Offaly senior hurling titles in addition to a Leinster final appearance.
"Shane’s knowledge and experience will be invaluable and we wish him and his backroom team the very best of luck for the season ahead. The rest of Shane’s management team will be ratified in the coming days," said Tullamore GAA.
"We would like to express our thanks to outgoing manager Edwin Finnerty and his backroom team for their work over the last three years."
