Birr information event on plan to pipe water to Dublin postponed
Uisce Éireann has rescheduled a public consultation event which was due to take place in Birr this evening (Thursday) in relation to its plan to pipe water from the River Shannon to Dublin, via Offaly.
The information event had been due to take place in The County Arms Hotel in Birr but was postponed due to the incoming Storm Éowyn.
Uisce Éireann said "the decision was made in the interest of public safety".
The rescheduled event is due to take place on Thursday next, January 30, at The County Arms Hotel from 4pm to 8pm.
The pipeline-to-Dublin development is formally known as The Water Supply Project Eastern and Midlands Region.
It proposes to abstract water from Parteen Basin, upstream of Parteen Weir on the Lower River Shannon, utilising a maximum of 2% of the long-term average flow at Parteen Basin.
It is proposed that the water would be treated near Birdhill, in Tipperary and treated water would then be piped 170km through counties Tipperary, Offaly and Kildare to a termination point reservoir at Peamount in County Dublin, connecting into the Greater Dublin Area water distribution network.
