Offaly TD not part of proposed agreement for Government
Offaly TD Carol Nolan is not part of the proposed agreement for Government between Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Regional Independent group, of which she is a member.
A spokesperson for the Independent TD said she would engage with Government “on a case-by-case basis as various issues arise and as policies and legislation is brought forward”.
Nolan, along with two other Regional Independent group members, did not play a formal role in Government formation talks and negotiations.
However, a spokesperson said she maintained a position of “constructive engagement” with Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael.
“When Carol confirmed her membership of the Regional Independent Group, she made it clear that she was joining in the first instance to access speaking rights within the Dáil. It was vital to Carol that she have access to a platform enabling her to raise issues of critical importance to the people of Offaly and her electorate. That position remains the same.
“Carol intends to remain a member of the Regional Independent Group and will engage with Government as she has always done; on a case-by-case basis as various issues arise and as policies and legislation is brought forward.
“Carol has no interest in opposition for opposition's sake. While it is of the utmost importance to Carol that she maintains her independence, she can and will continue to work constructively for the benefit of the people of Offaly and the country at large,” the spokesperson added.
