Offaly allocated €2,750,000 in Active Travel funding in 2025

Offaly County Council have been allocated €2,750,000 in Active Travel funding in 2025.

A total of 21 projects across Offaly have been allocated funding as part of the scheme, which will go towards the development of segregated cycle lanes and widened footpaths, new walking and cycling bridges, and new pedestrian crossings.

The Active Travel Scheme allocations for this year were announced on Monday, January 13, with almost €3m in funding allocated nationwide.

One of the key aims cited is to increase the number of walking and cycling networks so that walking, cycling and public transport will account for 50% of all journeys made by 2030.

Projects that received funding as part of the scheme include:

Tullamore Cycle Network (Includes St. Josephs National School), allocated €60,500; Cloghan Active Travel Footpath Improvements, allocated €37,500; Tullamore Urban Greenway, allocated €540,000; Birr Riverside Upgrade links, allocated €258,000; Rhode Pedestrian Crossings & Footpaths, allocated €130,000; Shinrone Cloughjordan Road, allocated €40,000.

Local Authority Active Travel Staff Costs, allocated €271,000; Edenderry Town & Design Active Travel Links, allocated €50,000; Banagher SRTS Design Links (includes St. Rynaghs National School and Banagher College), allocated €50,000; Edenderry Active Travel Elements (Phase 2), allocated €117,500.

Cox's Bridge, R443-2 Clara Road, Tullamore, allocated €250,000; Edenderry Harbour & Grand Canal Link, allocated €145,000; Tullamore Spollenstown Road New Pedestrian & Cycle Bridge, allocated €145,000.

Scoil Mhuire, Tullamore, allocated €10,000; Tullamore Convent Rd Bury Bridge Active Travel Elements, allocated €175,000; Collins Lane Tullamore - Permeability Link Road Scheme, allocated €235,500; Edenderry - 3No. Pedestrian Crossings, allocated €115,000; RATH Village Active Travel Elements, allocated €100,000.

Colaiste Iosagain, Portarlington (R420), allocated €10,000; Ferbane - Permeability Link To Grand Canal Greenway, allocated €5,000; Daingean Active Travel Elements & Junction Upgrade, allocated €5,000.
